Donald Trump is attempting to add more pressure to states as he continues his effort to restrict mail-in ballots. According to CNN, Trump is now telling state officials to hand over voter lists or face the risk of losing Postal Service delivery for mail-in ballots.

How are states responding to Donald Trump’s restrictions on mail-in ballots?

At least 23 states have filed lawsuits against the Trump administration so far as they fight back against the president’s effort to implement new voting guidelines. The District of Columbia has also filed a lawsuit, as well as Democratic Party leaders and several voter advocacy groups.

Last month, however, a federal judge in Washington, D.C., ruled that Trump’s executive order will not be blocked. As a result, the postal service is still collaborating with Trump on his plan to take away mail-in ballots from the states.

Democratic Party groups are still urging an appeals court to quickly review their case and save voters from being disenfranchised in the November midterm elections.

Shenna Bellows, Maine secretary of state, is among those who are warning about the consequences of Trump’s demands.

“You will see a virtual elimination of mail-in voting, unless the states supply voter lists to the federal government,” if the courts don’t block Trump’s plans, Bellows told CNN.

What are other voting guidelines Trump is attempting to implement?

Trump has laid out several ideas to add more restrictions for voters. That includes the SAVE ACT, which requires additional citizenship verification guidelines to register to vote. The bill, however, has hit a hurdle in the Senate.

Still, Trump continues his effort to control who gets ballots and who delivers them.

The administration says it “will continue lawfully enacting the agenda President Trump was elected to enact — which includes the safety and security of American elections.”
