The stepfather of the hip hop duo and brothers Swae Lee Brown and Slim Jxmmi Brown, known together as Rae Sremmurd, has died, reports Daily Journal.

Floyd Sullivan, who was 62 years old, was shot dead in the rappers‘ hometown of Tupelo, Mississippi, Monday night. Officers were dispatched around 9:30 p.m. and found an adult male dead from what seemed to be bullet wounds.

The duo’s publicist, Juel Stanley, confirmed the victim is the artists’ stepfather.

“Both Slim and Swae Lee are deeply saddened by the death of their stepfather, but both are thankful for the love and support they had during their upbringing,” Stanley said. “They ask that people respect their privacy during this time of grief and mourning.”

Mayor of Tupelo Jason Shelton said he and the city are behind the brothers, born Khalif Brown, 26, and Aaquil Brown, 28, while they face this hard time.

“Please know that we and the community you love and call home grieve with you, are praying for you, and extend our deepest condolences to you, your entire family, and friends during this difficult time,” Shelton said.

Captain Chuck McDougal, spokesperson for Tupelo police, said the preliminary investigation shows Sullivan’s son and half-brother of Sremmurd, Michael Sullivan, is a possible suspect. He is currently in police custody.

“That person of interest has been located and is being held for psychiatric review at this time,” McDougald said. “There were no other injuries reported in the home and no other suspects are being sought at this time.”

According to police, the investigation is still in its early stages and more information will be released when appropriate.

Following the news, Swae took to social media to express his feelings. After tweeting four broken heart emojis, he also asked for compassion as well as saying he’s been tested his whole life.

Swae also went to Instagram story to post “Life has a crazy way of making sure your still on your toes,” followed by “OG Gone live forever,” according to Revolt TV

According to TMZ, Sullivan raised the pair since they were in middle school and moved to Mississippi with their mother, Bernadette.

Earlier this week, Sremmurd (which signifies “Ear Drummers” spelled backwards) celebrated the fifth anniversary of their debut album Sremmlife. The album includes hits like “No Flex Zone” and “Come Get Her.”

Slim Jxmmi held a toy drive in Tupelo on Christmas Eve, giving away toys to about 100 children at City Hall, reports Daily Journal.

“I hope kids take away from today to just give back to your community if you ever come up in life and you’re doing well,” he said. “I know what people are going through here. I can touch them. I can relate to them, and I want to inspire them. They see me come from this ground right here, so I want to let them know that they can do it, too.”
