Stephen “tWitch” Boss, the beloved DJ who entertained viewers on Ellen Degeneres’ talk show for eight years, died Tuesday. According to TMZ, police said Stephen’s wife, Allison Holker, rushed to an LAPD station on Tuesday when she realized that her husband was missing.
Police said Holker was frantic because Stephen had left home without his car, which is out of character for him. Shortly after Holker spoke with police, officers received a call about a shooting at a Los Angeles hotel. That’s when the grieving wife learned that her husband died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at age 40.
The popular entertainer first rose to fame in 2008 when he finished as runner-up on the show So You Think Can Dance.
Stephen worked as a DJ on Ellen’s show from 2014 to 2022 when the program ended. He also landed several acting roles along with way, including his performance as Jason in the Step Up movie franchise. Additionally, Stephen appeared in Magic Mike XXL.
The Hollywood star also worked as the host of the reality series Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings on Disney+, along with his wife.
Stephen and Holker married in 2013. Together, they have three children.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to share my husband Stephen has left us,” Holker said in a statement to People. “Stephen lit up every room he stepped into. He valued family, friends and community above all else and leading with love and light was everything to him. He was the backbone of our family, the best husband and father, and an inspiration to his fans.”
The devastated wife said her husband’s “positive impact will continue to be felt.”
“I am certain there won’t be a day that goes by that we won’t honor his memory. We ask for privacy during this difficult time for myself and especially for our three children,” Holker added. “Stephen, we love you, we miss you, and I will always save the last dance for you.”
