A look at the unexpected impact of 'Stranger Things' on hip-hop culture

The Netflix original series, Stranger Things, is one of popular culture’s most biggest phenomenons of the moment. If you couldn’t tell, we are huge fans of the show over here at Blavity. We told you how the show has a future blerd hero, and we also brought you lit details about the show’s second season, which premiers next year.

Stranger Things knows no bounds as far as its reach. Not only it’s it earning it’s staple in pop culture, it seeping over to hip-hop culture.

Here’s how:

Rapper 2 Chainz was spotted wearing a hoodie with Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown)’s face on it.

New music on the way

So was August Alsina, and Brown freaked out.

Not to mention one of the hottest producers of the game is publicly stanning the show.

Then Brown went to Jimmy Kimmel and spit a few bars, while Caled McLaughlin (Lucas) dabbed, of course. Move over Adele, this is the most important “Monster” cover in history.

Then Wiz Khalifa sampled the show’s theme song in his own new song of the same name. He also tributed the series in the cover art.

Although this isn’t necessarily a “hip-hop” song per se, how cool was this!?

Let’s be clear, Stranger Things is amazing and our obsession isn’t going to cool off anytime soon. All we need now is Millie to be featured on an upcoming hip-hop song. Who will do it first? Chance? Kendrick? Someone make it happen!
