Streetwear brand Rose in Good Faith is using recycled materials to make dope sneakers. In collaboration with Doc Johnson, a sex-toy company, the brand announced its new product Plastic Sole, which is an everyday shoe made from recycled sex toys.

According to an announcement shared with Blavity, the two brands have been working on the innovative footwear for almost two years, developing what they have described as a “unique recycling system that grinds down the factory’s defective dildos into millimeter-sized cubes of TPE.” Those cubes are mixed with non-bleach ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) foam and molded into the shape of futuristic kicks.

The brand highlights the benefits of the sneaker on the environment and the consumer’s comfort. The design includes a raised arch in the footbed of the shoe, providing extra support by “lessening any abnormal stress on the knees and hips when compared to flat shoes.”

David Teitelbaum, Rose in Good Faith founder, told Dezeen that he came up with the idea after visiting Doc Johnson’s facilities.

“I had the idea when touring the impressive Doc Johnson facility and seeing a few toys that didn’t make it past quality assurance, get grounded down through a machine,” Teitelbaum told Dezeen.

“The little rough cubes from the broken toys sparked a memory of EVA pellets and from there the idea was born,” he added.

Rose In Good Faith also wanted to assist in helping Doc Johnson’s efforts to destigmatize sexual pleasure, health and wellness.

“We wanted to remove the taboo and start the conversation around sexual wellness and health, while also making an incredible shoe that removed excess thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) that would have been thrown away or destroyed,” Teitelbaum said.

The Plastic Sole comes with a natural cork insole, which will mold to your unique foot shape in just a few hours of wear-time. The sole also provides additional support, comfort and versatility.

The limited-edition footwear will be featured at H Lorenzo’s flagship location, and will later be stocked across all The Webster doors.
