Lifetime has announced a premiere date for the final part of its groundbreaking docuseries Surviving R. Kelly.
Per the network, the two-part special, titled Surviving R. Kelly: The Final Chapter, premieres on Jan. 2 and 3 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
The concluding episodes would explore the aftermath of the singer’s crimes, diving deep into the multiple federal and state trials he faced.
“While millions have read the headlines, the final chapter connects the shocking fine print with unspeakable details never shared with the public, culminating in the verdict heard around the world,” the official description reads.
Night one of the special will include Azriel Clary‘s court testimonial, during which she revealed that she was told to lie for R. Kelly’s infamous interview with Gayle King. Clary was 17 years old when she became Kelly’s live-in girlfriend, and she and the singer’s other girlfriend, Joycelyn Savage, were often told to lie to protect Kelly. Those requests increased as more accusations of sexual abuse against Kelly came out after the release of the docuseries’ first part in 2019.
Clary family’s will also participate in the final episodes. They discuss the intimidation tactics used by Kelly supporters to put them between a rock and a hard place. Legal experts and journalists will appear to shine a light on the racketeering charges against Kelly.
The Final Chapter will also tackle the aftermath of the gun threat at the premiere screening of the documentary. Kelly’s former manager was convicted for the threat.
Night two is going to focus on Jane Doe #1 and a group of John Does who take the stand as new survivors come out with their experiences. The latter will be speaking out for the first time.
It will conclude with a powerful message from survivors who will share their victim impact statements while hearing the final verdict against Kelly.
Kelly is currently serving 30 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of racketeering in connection to his sexual exploitation of children, kidnapping and forced labor.
