SZA is partnering with a popular Italian restaurant in Los Angeles to provide meals to families who are struggling to purchase food as the government stops funding SNAP. Jon & Vinny’s announced its collaboration with SZA on Instagram and thanked her for stepping up for the community.
“Last week @sza reached out to us with an idea and now, with her help, it’s a reality,” the restaurant wrote on its Instagram page.
When can families pick up meals from Jon & Vinny’s?
According to Jon & Vinny’s, the plan is to provide 1,400 free meals over the next week to Los Angeles families who receive SNAP benefits. The meals will be available as takeout from the restaurant’s Slauson location from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., starting on Tuesday, Nov. 11 and continuing until Monday, Nov. 18.
Families who want to receive meals from Jon & Vinny’s can email [email protected]. The team will then assign pick up times for the families. Up to four meals will be allowed per family.
“Thank you SZA for inspiring all of us to be there for our neighbors,” Jon & Vinny’s wrote.
What is the latest with Trump’s effort to stop funding SNAP?
While the lower courts ruled that the government must keep funding SNAP, President Donald Trump has now taken the case to the Supreme Court, hoping to keep the funds frozen.
Although beneficiaries in some states, including Hawaii and New Jersey, are getting their full monthly funds, families in other places like Nebraska and West Virginia, have completely lost their benefits.
As the Associated Press reported, the Supreme Court is expected to announce its decision on Tuesday as families wait to see what happens with their benefits.
