Doubling down on the massive success of her highly anticipated sophomore record, SOS, which dropped in early December, TDE’s leading songstress SZA has reportedly earned close to $35 million on her first national arena tour.
According to a recent report from Billboard, the SOS tour grossed $34.5 million, encompassing 17 North American cities in just over a month. Based on this report, the tour averaged 12,812 tickets per night and $1.9 million per show.
With SOS debuting at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart and the record garnering 404.58 million official streams in its first week, the “Gone Girl” singer has broken two significant records: gaining the biggest streaming week ever for an R&B album as well as the second-largest streaming week for an album by a female artist.
Just days after the release of SOS, five years after her Grammy-nominated debut record, CTRL, the “Shirt” singer announced on Instagram it was “time to take this s**t on the road.”
Last month, Elliot Wilson and Brian “B-Dot” Miller had a sit-down discussion with Top Dawg Entertainment President Terrance “Punch” Henderson on the Rap Radar podcast. He spoke about the positive side effects of being on tour for SZA.
“You’re actually seeing these live people and you’re seeing them respond to you and that energy exchange,” Punch said on the podcast. “So she’s handling (fame) a way lot better now.”
Instead of embracing the glory of her accomplishments just yet, SZA told Billboard she intends on putting out a deluxe version of SOS with 10 additional tracks before fully digesting the abundant fruits of her labor.
“I’m looking forward to actually feeling proud of myself and not just smiling and nodding at accolades, but really feeling it internally and knowing that I’m good enough,” she told the outlet.
