Angel Massie says she’s no flip-flopper. The Real Housewives of Potomac newbie started off on the show with a bang, with viewers penning her as a potential standout, but as Season 10 has progressed, some social media discourse about Massie has been critical.

She came in as a friend to Keiarna Stewart, and many believe their dynamic is similar to RHOA’s Porsha Williams and her former BFF Shamea Morton, who viewers feel Morton chose to play a sidekick to.

Massie has had a difficult time becoming acclimated to the group, with Ashley Darby even saying at BravoCon 2025 that Massie isn’t in the mindset ready to stand with the cast because she lacks fortitude. But Massie begs to differ. A former journalist, current business owner, wife, and mother, Massie says she has all of the credentials to be a flute holder, and that with time, viewers will see.

Prior to BravoCon, Blavity’s Shadow and Act spoke with the new cast member about everything we’ve seen thus far and what’s to come for the remainder of the season.

Congratulations on joining Season 10 of The Real Housewives of Potomac. Obviously, you have a very accomplished resume with you being in the wellness space and having a background as a journalist. What made you want to join the franchise at this stage in your life?

I just wanted to be able to show how Black women are not a monolith and how different we all are, how different we can all show up, and we can still find some commonality with each other. And I think that I felt like it was the right time in my life because we’ve started to look for a second home in Maryland, and I know that I’m done having children, and I just felt like it was a good time to join a new friend group.

You came in as a friend to Keiarna [Stewart], aka K. Do you feel as if having a close friend on the show who may be on the outs with several other cast members may have impacted your experience on the show?

It didn’t have to, but it could have created a situation where they have coupled us and our intentions together, which is fine. I personally wouldn’t do that to someone because I am an individual and I’m a separate individual from K. She is my really, really good friend, but we are two different folks with different issues, different ticks, different likes, different dislikes. So, maybe…but I would hope not. But maybe.

Now coming into the season, who did you gel with the most on the cast, and what interaction surprised you in terms of you getting to know the ladies?

I will say Tia [Glover], love Tia. She is positive, funny, bubbly, she’s all the things. I do like Stacey [Rusch] and Jassi [Harris]. For a while, I had a rapport with Ashley [Darby]. Overall, it’s a fun group. It’s a hard group, but it’s a fun group.

What would you say makes the group hard?

The incessant need for gotcha moments, the gossiping behind each other’s backs, the making assumptions instead of asking each other when we’re right there…those things make it hard because when you come into a group, you hope that people will give you the same benefit of the doubt that you give them, but these ladies play by different rules, and so that makes it hard. I think sometimes when you walk in the room, you’re wondering what other shoe is gonna drop, and that’s rough on your nervous system, period. So I think that is what makes it hard, but it can also be fun.

And now your friendship with K has been tested this season. What types of conversation, if any, did you have with her about standing in unison before and during filming?

I mean, we’re friends. There wasn’t any strategic conversation that we had about being in unison or gathering ourselves together to come after one person. So, of course, I’m going to have her back and be by her side. She’s my friend. She’s my girlfriend in real life. And this is a relationship that wasn’t created for this platform. And that’s really just what type of person I am. So, of course, I’m going to hear her out when she has grievances with other people, but let’s be clear, her grievances aren’t mine.

Now, you’ve been accused of flip-flopping and being different in K’s presence versus when you’re with the ladies by yourself. How do you respond to that?

I will say that they don’t know me. Number one, they don’t know what my energy is like; they don’t know that I choose my energy from moment to moment, and I decide how I’m going to show up, and I think that I have every right to be a slow burner and to be an emotional processor and to decide to address or readdress what I want to. And so I think that it is a reach of epic proportions to say that I changed.

I’m a boss, OK? I’m a CEO of my company. I’m a co-CEO of my family. I’ve had a long journalism career, and I have always been a very independent thinker, which is what you see at the beginning of the season when I ask if maybe Wendy’s kids were sick. Of course, that created a situation that K wasn’t happy about, but it was more about me asking the honest questions. And so I think that the ignorance comes from them not knowing me, and maybe not asking the questions that they are asking behind my back to my face.

Now, do you feel as if, at times, you’ve been unfairly targeted?

I think that these ladies target everyone. You see Stacey and I being targeted over and over again, and it is not the reception that I would have liked to have joining this group, of course, because I’m getting to know them. I want to get to know them. I want to be a part of the group. I’m not a masochist who’s coming every day to be gotcha or beat up on. I do think a lot of it was very unfair because you not only see me getting these inquisitions in person, but you see them talking about me behind my back and making these assumptions and telling these stories, and I think that that’s not how you get to know somebody.

You posted on Threads about having many thoughts and feelings about the show and that you wanted to wait until the end of the season to give your full recap. Being as though you are a reality TV newbie, how do you feel as if you’ve been portrayed on the show so far?

I think I seem like a sad girl, and I’m not. I’m a fun, happy girl. I like to go out, have fun, be in nature, be with my family and friends, and I think that’s unfortunate. I think that we’ve missed some moments of levity where I did make connections with the ladies, like me talking to Stacey at the Bloom Ball and pulling her aside and telling her I wanted to get to know her, or me at the Truth and Tranquility event telling Wendy that I wanted to know more about her culture and me going to her home and us having a good time. So, I think that that balance…you know…there’s only 44 minutes, of course, in the show, so they can’t show everything. But, I would have loved for that balance to be shown a little more than it seeming like I’m a sad girl, because I’m just not.

Well, let’s have some fun. Do you think Stacey’s breath really stinks?

I think that everybody is guilty of having tart breath at some point. None of us are immune to needing a stick of gum.

When is the last time you used a filter on social media?

It’s been a while.

Have you ever been chin checked?

No, I haven’t. And I still have it, OK, because what you saw K saying to me after I said what I said was not a chin check. I think that was an exaggeration for sure.

Is Gizelle still the word on the street?

She’s the word in her street. Not in mine.

If you had to pick one former Potomac cast member to return to the show full-time, who would you choose?

I would definitely choose Candiace, because I like that Candiace [Dillard Bassett] is intellectual, she’s intellectual in her reads, [and] she is funny. And I would have said Monique [Samuels], but Monique is back, so. And Charisse [Jackson-Jordan], too. I love Charrisse. We’ve had a relationship since before I joined this friend group, and I really, really like her.

Who in season 10 has the best storyline?

Me. I would say me, because I mean, you only see me or Stacey, or I mean K too, but I would say me. I’m keeping things interesting. I mean, it’s Angel, Angel, Angel so far this season, so go figure.

The first season can be hard. If you choose to come back or if you’re invited back for a second season, what would you like to expand upon and for viewers to see?

I definitely want them to see Bobby and I opening Wonderland Atlantic, our DMV arm of Wonderland Outdoors, our outdoor business. I definitely love for them to see more of my family dynamic, which is the most important thing to me. In my life, my kids, my husband, mother-in-law, dad, sister, niece. And I would definitely love to circle back to creating a stronger bond with these ladies because, at the end of the day, all of these women are accomplished, they are beautiful, and I just think that maybe I am too positive, but I just think that there has to be some type of commonality there where we can meet on an equal plane.
