Update (September 29, 2018): The shooter connected to the killing of Louisiana State University basketball player Wayde Sims has been found and booked in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. According to the Advocate, the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Dyteon Simpson, admitted to authorities to "intentionally shooting the victim" in an argument turned fist fight. The two were reportedly fighting outside of a frat party on the Southern University campus in the wee hours of Friday morning. Around midnight, shots were heard and the third-year basketball player was shot — he would later die in a nearby hospital from his wounds. Simpson is currently held on a $350,000 bond and has been charged with second-degree murder.

Original: Student athlete Wayde Sims of Louisiana State University was shot and killed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana early Friday morning, according to Advocate.

Sims, was shot at 12:25 a.m. following an argument, Sports Illustrated reports. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his wounds. The junior was entering his third season with the LSU basketball team.

According to NOLA.com, Baton Rouge Police released video footage of the fight leading to Sims' death on Friday.

"We are all devastated," read a statement from LSU basketball coach Will Wade. "We need your prayers for Wayde, for his family, for all of us. We are heartbroken."

A Baton Rouge native, the 20-year-old led his University High School team to three consecutive championships, and was named 2014-15 Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year.

Police are searching for the person toward the end of the video seen wearing a grey shirt and red pants with a white strip down the leg. The department is also hoping to bring in the other people in the video for questioning.
