A doll resembling for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was seen hanging by the neck behind a truck in San Jose Tuesday evening according to a report by NBC Bay Area.

The photos posted to Twitter by Joanna Acevedo, were reposted in order to include the license plate of the truck before being picked up by NBC.

"Never underestimate the power of bystanders," Acevedo said in a later tweet.

In response to her tweet, many users defended the imagery of the doll citing the truck belonged to a Raider fan, a rival team of Kaepernick's former employer.

"I think this is more of a Bay Area sports rivalry thing than a racist thing." One user wrote in response on Twitter, "It’s not a good look [though]. But I don’t think the intent was racist."

Acevedo responded to those in a thread to further clarify her stance on the issue in three main points.

3. I welcome all ends of criticism for how I can be a better ally to combat racism. I hope that this post will invite more open conversations about how we all can implement anti-racist initiatives.

Kaepernick rose to prominence by taking a knee during the national anthem before NFL games as a form of protest social and racial injustice in America as well as police brutality. While Kaepernick is no longer employed by an NFL team he recently sued the league for collusion against him and was awarded an undisclosed amount of money.

In February of this year outside of a San Jose Costco a Colin Kaepernick doll was photographed hanging in a similar matter. It is unknown if the two incidents are the same truck.
