Eve L. Ewing’s award-winning debut poetry collection Electric Arches (2017) is being adapted for TV by AMC Studios.

The adaptation will be an Afrofuturistic anthology series set in Ewing’s hometown, Chicago. Through her overall deal with AMC Studios, Into the Badlands co-executive producer LaToya Morgan will supervise and executive produce the series, along with Ewing, Creed co-writer Aaron Covington, and Shadow And Act RISING Award winner Jermaine Johnson. Ewing and Covington, who are both repped by Johnson at 3 Arts Entertainment, will co-write the pilot.

The acclaimed poetry collection–which won the Norma Farber First Book Award from the Poetry Society of America, among others–is a semi-autobiographical exploration of Black girlhood and womanhood, engaging with questions about what the city of the future will look like and how an Afrofuturist lens can expand how we think about the past and the present. If brought to series by AMC, the Electric Arches anthology show will explore the same questions and social issues, with every episode taking place in different dimensions and versions of the same reality, Ewing told Shadow And Act. “It’s going to play with space and time and continuity,” in a way that’s fun and imaginative, she said.
