More than 87 percent of Goodwills’ total revenue goes toward job training and placement programs, and other career services which provide credentials and certifications for participants. The organization also serves as a resource offering community-based programs such as financial education and transportation to help people support themselves and families.

Brad Turner Little, Director of Mission Strategy at Goodwill, told Blavity that this year alone, Goodwill shoppers have helped place more than 288,000 people into jobs.

"You’re taking the things that you used to love, giving them a second life, and turning them into resources to be reinvested back into the community," Turner said.

By doing this, you are helping those who are unemployed, under-employed, and want to improve their quality of life.

Turner also noted a recent study by Engage for Good shows nearly two thirds of millennials express a preference for brands that stand for something. Last year, millennials donated nearly four billion pounds of items to local Goodwills. Those contributions alone helped Goodwill provide more than 69 million services for people including, child care, mock interviews, dress etiquette, computer training, digital skills training and more.
