In recent weeks, Atlanta-based rapper 21 Savage has dominated headlines for his relationship with media personality Amber Rose. But he is in the news for something critics and fans may not have expected: philanthropy.

On Sunday, Aug. 6, 21 Savage hosted his second annual "Issa Back to School Drive" in his old neighborhood to give kids a fresh start for the new school year. Students received free haircuts, girls had a chance to get their hair styled by professionals and every student left with supplies and clothes if needed.

“It’s important because this is where I came from I never really had influences like this. Nobody really did anything like this,” he told Hot New Hip Hop.“I just want kids to stay in school."

Not only did he give away supplies and school gear, 21 Savage also performed his latest single “Bank Account” from his hit album Issa for kids and parents.

The "Issa Back to School Drive" was also made possible because of contributions and donations from Spotify. Here is a photo recap of the event:
