On Monday, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) officially announced her candidacy to be the 46th president of the United States. Not only does this make her the third woman to announce her bid to be the next president this election cycle, but she's also the first Black person.

Within hours, popular online conservative troll and self-proclaimed Zionist Jacob Wohl claimed the nationalities of Senator Harris' parents make her ineligible to run for office.

"Kamala Harris is NOT eligible to be president. Her father arrived from Jamaica in 1961 — mother from India arrived in 1960. Neither parent was a legal resident for 5 years prior to Harris's birth, a requirement for naturalization. Kamala was raised in Canada," Wohl's tweet reads.

Newsweek writes Wohl, an unabashed supporter of President Donald Trump, gained notoriety when he claimed to be in possession of evidence proving special counsel Robert Mueller sexually assaulted women. In the end, he failed to produce evidence corroborating this assertion.

Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California, according to her official biography on the U.S. Senate site. Politifact refuted Wohl's claims about the senator's eligibility and cited a landmark 1898 Supreme Court ruling that states with some exceptions, individuals born in the United States are in fact citizens under the 14th Amendment.

"If you are born in the U.S, you are automatically a natural-born U.S. citizen under the constitution," Harvard Law professor Einer Elhauge told Politifact.

Back when former President Barack Obama announced his intent to run for president, many conservatives also claimed the former senator from Illinois was not born in the United States and instead immigrated from Kenya. As CNN notes, this allegation was championed by President Trump himself for some time. Obama was, of course, born in Hawaii.

In responding to Wohl's tweet, many couldn't help but note Harris' ethnicity likely played a role in his inaccurate accusations.
