Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you've heard about the near-total abortion ban that was passed in Alabama on May 15th. Alabama’s Gov. Kay Ivey signed the nation’s strictest abortion bill, that bans abortion even in cases of rape and incest. Under the bill, doctors caught performing the procedure could spend up to 99 years in prison. Abortion would only be acceptable in the case that it jeopardizes the life of the mother.

Other states are also joining the ban abortion bandwagon, including Missouri, Georgia, Kansas and Ohio. According to an article by CNN, Gov. Ivey stated that because of Roe v. Wade, this bill may be unenforceable. She has also stated that, “Many Americans, myself included, disagreed when Roe v. Wade was handed down in 1973. The sponsors of this bill believe that it is time, once again, for the U.S. Supreme Court to revisit this important matter, and they believe this act may bring about the best opportunity for this to occur."

Seeing as this bill would have to go before a newly conservative Supreme Court, many republicans remain hopeful in having control over the woman's right to choose (or not).

What caught my eye was when radio personality Ebro posted his tweet on IG yesterday:

Ebro states in his tweet, “With all the 'Abortion Bill' talk that will be extremely loud for the next several months … remember your religion is being used to force you to align with white supremacists for next year’s election.”

This thought hadn’t even crossed my mind. I was completely ignorant to how this issue could be used as a pawn for the 2020 election.

The thing is, Black people have become very aware of how our issues have been put aside for other minorities. Hence the hashtag #Tangibles2020, where we are demanding more of politicians, especially those who claim to be for us and about us.

What I'm starting to believe is that this abortion ban is seeking to push the agenda that liberals are the heroes by undoing the ban. We’ve already heard about candidates such as Bernie Sanders who don’t believe in reparations.

The point is, we shouldn't get blindsided by this issue. I believe it’s all part of an agenda. It may seem like I’m wearing a tinfoil hat, but these issues are very concerning, especially for the Black community.
