I love grocery stores, but shopping has been a bit tricky since going paleo. I take it as an exciting challenge! Just like learning to cook paleo-friendly meals, I have to learn where to shop for paleo-friendly foods. Here my picks for the most paleo-friendly grocery stores, places that are great for finding grain-free goodies, fresh foods and help me stay on track with my new lifestyle.

Trader Joe’s

Gosh, I love Trader Joe’s. It makes me happy just to walk in the store. They’re great for getting fresh fruits and veggies, grain-free snacks or for paleo staples such as coconut flour and coconut oil.

Aldi

If you haven’t heard of Aldi, you’ve been missing out. Owned by the same family as Trader Joe’s, Aldi is one of the healthiest grocery stores. I like Aldi for getting basics such as eggs and almond milk.

Marshalls

I’m already obsessed with TJX Companies (the conglomerate made up of T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods), so when I found paleo-friendly products while browsing through a Marshalls, I was ecstatic.

Wegmans

Not everyone has Wegmans, and I’m sad for those who don’t. Wegmans is sort of like Whole Foods meets Walmart. It’s a grocery store, but it sells locally-grown foods, contains a large organic section called “Nature’s Marketplace,” has a bakery, sushi shop, pizza shop and sub restaurant. On top of all that, they have multiple food buffets. They also have a pharmacy and carry reasonably priced personal care supplies. Some locations even sell wine and beer! It’s basically heaven in grocery-store form.

Lucky for me and other primal eaters, Wegmans happens to carry lots of paleo-friendly supplies such as sweet potato chips, almond flour and plenty of fruits and veggies.

Whole Foods

Tried-and-true, Whole Foods is a staple store for gluten-free, vegan, paleo and other restrictive dietary needs.

Farmers Markets

Last but certainly not least, farmers markets never fail to be a resource for purchasing healthy foods. They typically aren’t as bountiful in the winter, but if you do a quick Google search, you might be surprised to find a market operating in the year-round near you.
