Halloween can be a fun holiday, but some people take it to unfortunate and offensive levels. We've already discussed the perils of blackface at length, but this time, Olympic gold medalist Shaun White is under fire for offending the mentally disabled community.

White recently decided to dress up as Simple Jack from the comedy movie Tropic Thunder, in which Ben Stiller portrayed a mentally disabled character.

It definitely wasn't well-received.

As Vulture reports, the original intention of the Simple Jack character was to mock actors portraying mentally disabled people as Oscar bait, but the move wasn't cool with disability rights advocates.

"I owe everyone in the Special Olympics community an apology for my poor choice of Halloween costume the other night," White said, per TMZ.

"It was a last minute decision. It was the wrong one." White continued. "The Special Olympics were right to call me out on it. They do great work supporting so many tremendous athletes, and I am sorry for being insensitive. Lesson learned."

The Special Olympics' Twitter account responded to the professional snowboarder, thanking him for listening to the community.

One tweeter mentioned how his apology should've targeted a larger span of the community instead of solely addressing the organization.
