Girls Auto Clinic owner Patrice Banks wanted to create a shop that would make women looking to get their cars serviced comfortable. More than half of American drivers are women but they only make up 2 percent of the mechanics around the country.

Banks' Philadelphia-based repair shop is more than that; it is also a hair and nail salon. She started the shop to give women an option. Banks quit her job as an engineer and took night classes to become an auto mechanic because she did not want women to be ripped off and taken advantage of at other shops.

"I've always feared that I was taken advantage of and not making the right choice with my car," she told NBC News. "And thought, why don't we make something for women. We don't need the guys."

Women who get their cars serviced there, get a full experience. The auto clinic host monthly free workshops that teach simple tips on car maintenance. And the "auto gals" are helpful mechanics in red heels that teach and show customers every step of the repair process.
