My mom likes to refer to herself as "Mrs. Fix It" because growing up, we think that's what moms do; they fix everything. It's like they have some sort of superpower. With a power, however, comes limitations or weaknesses. We don't get along all the time. We argue and bump heads, but that's okay. Every healthy relationship has its ups and downs, but the love is never forgotten or lost.

Being an adult now, I try and take on most of my responsibilities. That doesn't mean that I don't want to call my mom up and have her "fix it". Honestly, I don't even like scheduling my own doctor's appointments.

1. When I’m sick

We all need a little TLC every now and then, and there's no better place to be than your mom's king size while you have the sniffles. Unfortunately, everyone isn't privileged enough to be in the same city or state as their mother. That's where phone calls come in handy. We whine and plead to our moms over the phone and believe me they want to be there just as much as you want them there.

2. When I feel like the world is against me

College is challenging and being an adult kicks my ass more than often, so it's nice to call my mom and vent to her even if I'm at fault. It's nice to always have someone on your team when opposing forces like midterms and being laid off try to take you down.

3. I need help with my taxes

Let's be real. Do we ever really know how to fill out tax forms? For some reason, tax season becomes the ultimate test of my abilities. I don't even know where to start. My mom does her own taxes, so when I'm struggling I know she'll have the answers for me.

4. When I’ve accomplished something

Being able to say I've paid my bills with some extra money feels like an accomplishment to me. When I'm feeling proud of myself, I share that feeling with my mom. We all want that seal of approval from the one that counts most. My mom's proud of me when I even make it home with more than a quarter tank of gas. It's always the small things that count.

5. I’m coming home

When I'm coming home, I can see my mom's face light up through the phone. Even though parents want us to grow and do great things, they also don't want us to forget where we came from. I love showing up and surprising my mom when she least expects it, but it's even more satisfying when I give her a heads up and her reaction is like she just won some sweepstakes.
