Costco has issued a recall on a beloved favorite.

According to Tasting Table, the warehouse retailer is recalling the Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene, a sparkling wine popular for its affordable price, as certain bottles have posed a serious risk to buyers. Rather than return compromised bottles, Costco urges specific customers who’ve bought the Prosecco to discard it immediately.

Costco informed its members of the recall in a notice, explaining that certain bottles were at risk of shattering even before being opened. Customers in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Michigan, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, or Wisconsin who purchased a bottle of the sparkling wine between April 25 and Aug. 26 are urged not to open any unopened bottles.

The warehouse retailer is asking buyers to dispose of their bottles safely. To do so, it recommends wrapping the Prosecco in paper towels before discarding it in a plastic bag in case the bottle shatters, then placing the bottle in the trash.

To receive a full refund, customers should head to their local Costco with the recall notice letter they received. If there are any issues, customers should contact Ethica Wines, the importer with which the warehouse retailer works to make Kirkland-branded wine, for further assistance. The recall only applies to bottles with the ID number 1879870.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused,” Costco said in the notice.

Costco just announced a major recall of its Dubai-Style Chocolate

Costco’s warning should be taken seriously, as a retailer asking customers to discard a compromised product instead of returning it is not the norm.

Less than a week ago, Costco issued a major recall on its Dubai-Style Chocolate. The warehouse retailer explained that the product’s packaging incorrectly stated that the chocolate contained gluten when it should have stated that it contains wheat.

Costco instructed customers who bought the chocolate to return it for a full refund.

Costco sold its compromised chocolate bars between May 1 and Aug. 29. So far, no illnesses due to the product have been reported.
