ABC has bought a new legal drama series, Reasonable Doubt, from Kerry Washington’s Simpson Street and Larry Wilmore’s Wilmore Films.

It is an ABC studios project, as both Washington and the project’s writer, Raamla Mohamed, are under overall deals. Mohamed has an extensive history at ABC and with Shondaland, most notably as a writer and producer on Scandal.

Per Deadline, who exclusively broke the news of this story, “In Reasonable Doubt, you’ll judge Charlie Stewart for her questionable ethics and wild interpretations of the law… until you’re the one in trouble. Then you’ll see her for what she is: the most brilliant and fearless defense attorney in Los Angeles who bucks the justice system at every chance she gets.”

“The chance to work with a rising star like Raamla, a shining star like Kerry, and a legend like Shawn Holley was simply irresistible! I’m excited and honored,” said Wilmore in a statement.

Washington’s Simpson Street has Little Fires Everywhere, which stars Washington, coming up soon for Hulu. Mohamed is a co-executive producer on that project. Also on Simpson Street’s long to-do list is City of Saints (which has Melina Matsoukas attached to direct) and workplace comedy 24-7 (directed by and starring Eva Longoria with Washington).
