Call it a hunch, but Robert Dunham just knew he had to bring his hair clippers with him to school on Wednesday. The fifth grade teacher at Carver Elementary School in Richmond, Virginia, felt that some of his students might need a little help to look their best for the Moving On Ceremony — a celebration that marks the end of elementary school and the transition to middle school.

"I had a gut feeling some of my boys were going to come today and they were not going to be prepared," Dunham told CBS affiliate WTVR. "I remember my fifth grade Moving On Ceremony, something just said 'take your clippers and put them in your bag.'"

Ahead of the ceremony, he noticed that one of his students needed a haircut. When he took out his clippers, more students began piling into his classroom asking for trims.

"When I go to the barbershop, when I get a haircut, you feel good, you look good, you've got that confidence starting to come out of you. I want every one of my students to be confident today. This is their special day," he said.

Other teachers took photos of Dunham's kind act and the flicks spread across social media.

With the newfound attention, Dunham says he's simply happy to be a part of the moment.

"You should always be caught doing the right thing, at all times," he said, before commenting on the school he works at. "We have some of the brightest and funniest kids on the planet. Often we get a bad rap because of things that happened in the past. We tell people, this is in the new Carver. Whatever you remember, those days are over."

If nothing else, he wants his graduating students to remember that he was always there for them

"Being that positive male role model is something I take pride in every day."
