Yahya Abdul-Mateen II‘s next project is already lined up–a highly-coveted limited series based on Black Is King director Blitz Bazawule’s upcoming debut novel, The Scent of Burnt Flowers.

According to Deadline, FX managed to win an intense bidding war for the property and will develop the book as a six-episode limited series. Bazawule will write, direct and produce the series via his new production company, Inward Gaze. Abdul-Mateen will also executive produce via his House Eleven10 production company.

Like the book, the limited series is set in the 1960s, as couple Melvin and Bernadette escape America to Ghana, where they gain asylum. The couple befriends Ghananian musican Kwesi (Abdul-Mateen), who helps the couple keep their freedom. The series is described as taking on a magical realist perspective.

Macro Television Studios will also serve as a producer with Charles D. King, Ahmadou Seck and Marta Fernandez executive producing. Natalia Williams and Gaby Mena will executive produce for M88.

Bazawule’s book will debut June 28, but this isn’t the only big get for the author/director. Bazawule is also working on the musical adaptation of The Color Purple for Warner Bros.
