Netflix‘s lethal drama series You is back and it promises to have more chaos than ever before.

In the new season, we pick up not long after the events of the season 2 finale as Joe and Love are now married and raising their baby. They’ve moved to the Northern California town of Madre Linda, surrounded by “privileged tech entrepreneurs, judgmental mommy bloggers, and Insta-famous biohackers.” Per usual, Joe seems to be committed to his role as husband and dad, but something is up. He’s afraid of Love’s “lethal impulsiveness,” and at the same time, thinks that there may be another woman that’s right for him…and she may be right down the street.

Ahead of the season premiere, Shadow and Act spoke with series stars Victoria Pedretti, Penn Badgley, Tati Gabrielle, Shalita Grant and Travis Van Winkle about the events in season 3, including what set the stage for them and the fallout.

While Badgley’s Joe has been the protagonist for viewers, no matter how twisted his behavior, Pedretti’s Love mostly assumes most of this role in season 2 as she and Joe’s relationship just can’t get right, no matter how she tries.

“It’s really amazing to see the way Love kind of desperately tries to adapt in any way to preserve the relationship she has with Joe and to provide a life for her child,” Pedretti told us. “She’s consistently trying to do her best. She changes the town she lives in. She changes her hair, the way she does her makeup, the way she dresses, the way she relates to her husband. She changes the way she socializes in order to have a sense of community. She tries to seduce her husband into desiring her. She tries to go to couples therapy…she’s literally doing so everything possible to try to win Joe’s love when he’s calling her a monster from like the first couple minutes of the show.”

And at the end of the season (no direct spoilers just yet), it’s safe to say that it’s clear that Joe can’t be pleased — and Badgley agrees.

The actor said, “I think that Joe is definitely not capable of it. Because let’s be real, if he was able to get to that point where he was accepting of himself and another human being and like a collaborative partner, he would have to go through a lot of healing and self knowledge and sacrifice. And I just feel like realistically, that’s not going to happen for him. But because that is the same thing we’re all striving for in our personal relationships. I think he’ll always be a relevantwell, for now. He’s a relevant protagonist, so it’s not like it’s the same thing over and over. It’s repeating meditations on a theme, which I think is a cool thing to do sometimes.”
