Taraji P. Henson responded following Keith Lee’s reactions to their mixup at the 2024 BET Awards.

In case you missed it, the actor hosted the ceremony on June 30. During a segment to honor individuals at the event, the Empire alum confused Lee with Jordan Howlett, another TikTok creator. Lee was eventually given a flower, and he initially responded to the mixup by sharing a since-deleted video on his social media of throwing his rose on the ground, which quickly went viral.

“Our name will be known in every room it’s supposed to be, when it’s supposed to be, how it’s supposed to be, with no confusion,” Lee captioned the video. “God is amazing.”

“Life really is too short for this behavior. He wasn’t in his seat 🤷🏾‍♀️,” the 53-year-old wrote in an Instagram post with the video of Lee throwing his rose on the ground. “They give celebrity assigned seats! I rehearsed all damn day to go hit my mark and that young man wasn’t in his seat so HE MISSED HIS MOMENT!”

She continued, “His ego is hurt. He will be fine. I cleaned it up at the end of the show. 🤷🏾‍♀️ No love lost here.”

Before Henson’s comment, Lee shared another video on his platform on Monday explaining the incident and his response, which fans were skeptical about in the comments.

“First and foremost, I want to start by saying I am not upset at Taraji P. Henson by any stretch of the imagination. In my opinion, she smoked it last night,” he expressed. “I don’t think for one second Taraji had any ill will or any ill intentions behind the situation. The situation happened the way it did. It is what it is.”

He went on to say that he thought the segment’s production “felt rushed” and not “intentional” or “purposeful.” Lee also added that he deleted his initial video.
