A Memphis man led officers on a car chase before crashing into a tire store and continuing to run on foot. According to Newsweek, police said his mother was also inside of the car during the pursuit.
Police said they stopped Kentrell Hullom on I-140 in Sycamore View in Memphis on Monday afternoon. In the middle of the traffic stop, officers said Hullom sped off, driving through oncoming traffic in an attempt to flee. The pursuit ended after the driver crashed his vehicle into Sal's Tires and Complete Automotive Repair. He allegedly got out of his car and proceeded to run on foot before he was apprehended and taken into custody.
Police added that Hullom's mother told her son to stop the car and that she feared for her safety.
1. Hullom had active warrants for his arrests
Memphis police said they'd known of Hullom for some time, that he had active warrants for his arrest at the time of the traffic stop and that his driver's license had been suspended since 2011. According to WREG, he was also wanted for an aggravated assault charge.
He's now facing charges for evading arrest, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of an accident.
2. Tire shop workers react with shock
Eddie Cerros, one of the workers at Sal's Tires and Complete Automotive Repair, showed WREG the tire marks from the car left on the bay where he was working. He says he was just inches away from the car at the time of the crash.
“Three inches,” Cerros told the outlet.
The car also hit a few metal shelves in the building, however, no one was hurt during the crash.
Bryan Stoxstell, who owns a heating and cooling company in the same complex, reacted with complete shock upon hearing the news of the crash.
“When they came this morning, they said Bryan, Bryan someone crashed into the shop. I was like what?” Stoxstell told WREG, adding that he's happy everyone is OK.
