Fresh off his participation in the upcoming Expendables sequel, muscle man Terry Crews has joined the cast of the new Aaron Sorkin HBO drama The Newsroom.
His character, described as "a bodyguard, and unofficial life coach" for star Will McAvoy (played by Jedd Daniels), will be introduced in episode 6 on July 29.
The Newsroom was just renewed for a second season, but whether Crews will return to the show next year is unknown.
Jeff Daniels stars as news anchor Will McAvoy, who takes a mandatory leave of absence after a public tirade against America during a political debate. Upon his return, he discovers that most of his staff has quit and that his boss Charlie Skinner (Sam Waterston) has hired his ex-girlfriend MacKenzie McHale (Emily Mortimer) as his new executive producer. She and Will immediately clash when she envisions the creation of a new kind of news show, where entertainment and ratings are irrelevant and facts are of primary importance.
Critical reaction to the series has been mixed. But it's an Aaron Sorkin drama, so I'll give it a look.
