In the weeks following a viral video capturing a daycare worker pulling a Black child's hair, authorities in Texas are pursuing assault charges against the woman.

Video of a daycare worker attempting to wake up a girl identified as 3-year-old Amyra Wilson circulated on social media around January 17, drawing instant outrage online. According to local news outlet KCBD, the video was initially recorded December 26 but made its way online nearly a month later.

In the video, a woman wearing a gray sweatshirt can be seen pulling the girl's hair. “No ma’am, eat your food,” said the woman forcibly tugging the child's hair. Another woman in the background can also be heard laughing as the first woman forces the child to eat.

My Little Playhouse Learning Center was made aware of the video and fired the worker the next day following the wave of criticism from parents and the community. In a statement released earlier this month, the daycare stated “staff involved were fired immediately” suggesting the other woman was fired as well.

"The owners and Directors of My Little Playhouse Learning Center LLC were made aware of video footage posted on social media at approximately 11:45 a.m.," a statement said. "Staff involved were fired immediately. Local authorities (LPD) has been notified and are investigating accordingly. Texas Department of Childcare Licensing has also been notified."

Lubbock Police Department (LPD) is one of several ongoing investigators involved with the incident. Child Protective Services and LPD Family Crimes Unit are also looking into the now-fired daycare worker and the conditions of the daycare.

Amara's mother,  Laquitta Wilson, told Fox 34 she was unaware something of this nature could occur to her child.

“I was at work, blood was just boiling,” said Wilson. “I was just hurt. I can’t believe this. These people are crazy.”

According to Everything Lubbock, the daycare isn't as squeaky clean as it claims. Since 2016, there have been 19 violations regarding hazardous areas and inadequate training. Wilson also said the daycare did not apologize for assaulting her daughter.

"She was physically abused by an adult and someone that we paid to place for her safety," said Wilson via Everything Lubbock. "They had no apology. They had no reason. They did not call me. As I said, everything hit the fan and it's like they just had nothing to say."

Authorities are currently pursuing assault charges to only the main perpetrator. It is not confirmed if the other woman will be charged for her involvement.
