The viral video of an unidentified white teacher at Bohls Middle School in Pflugerville, Texas, has outraged parents and viewers after the video showed the teacher telling his students that his race is “the superior one.”

The video starts with the teacher, who is wearing a blue shirt talking to a crowd of students

“Deep down in my heart, I’m ethnocentric, which means I think my race is the superior one,” he said.

It’s unclear how the conversation on race began, but he can be heard explaining to students that he is “ethnocentric.” The students were shocked by their teacher’s sentiments and quickly decided to capture the moment on video.

One student recording the video asked him, “so, white is better than all?” and the teacher asked the students to give him time to explain his stance completely.

“Let me finish, I think everybody thinks that. They’re just not honest about it…I think everybody’s a racist at that level,” he said.

Upset by their teacher’s views, students challenged his thoughts and made it clear that his remarks lost his student’s respect.

“I’m not racist though; I like all types of [people],” one student said to the teacher.

“I actually respected you for a while, but now, I don’t have any more respect for you,” another student expressed.

“Yeah for real, I don’t think I [have] respect for him [anymore],” another added.

The teacher argues he never said that he didn’t like anybody or other races but believes that he is superior to another —which would be the exact definition of racism.

When students told the teacher to admit he was racist, the teacher responded by saying he was “honest” and refused to define himself as racist.

“I’ve said it enough,” he said, closing his argument.

Another student in the class was producer Southside’s son Mello, who said he would share his teacher’s words on his “famous” platform, Vibe reports.

Pflugerville Independent School District (ISD) Superintendent Dr. Douglas Killian released a statement following the incident sharing with students and parents that the teacher had been placed on administrative leave.

“We are aware of an inappropriate conversation a teacher at Bohls Middle School had with students this week during an advisory class. This interaction does not align with our core beliefs as a district. The video of the conversation includes statements that we find wholly inappropriate. The teacher has been placed on administrative leave while Human Resources is investigating. Pflugerville ISD and Bohls MS work together to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for our students. The advisory activity was inappropriate, inaccurate, and unacceptable. This type of interaction will not be tolerated in PfISD schools,” the statement read.

A parent named, Brian Hennington said racism inside the classroom is unacceptable.

“There are other personal experiences we’ve had as people of color that we had individually, but to see this in the classroom setting is just not acceptable,” Hennington said.

On Monday, Killian updated the statement to announce that the teacher is no longer employed.

Counselors will be provided to talk with students following the termination of their teacher.
