And the film festival beat goes on… one after the other… I gets no breaks; heading to SXSW this Friday, then once I get back, rolling right into New Directors/New Films, and soon after that, this one, the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival. 

The fest announced pieces of its lineup this morning, with more to come; skimming through the list as usual for any titles of interest to S&A, I came across more than I thought I would, which is a good thing! I'll be highlighting them all in individual posts, starting with this:

Titled Babygirl, and directed by Macdara Vallely.

Its synopsis reads:

For as long as she can remember, Bronx teenager Lena has watched her mom Lucy squander her life on a series of deadbeat men. When Victor, her mom’s latest boy toy, starts hitting on Lena, she sets up a trap to expose Victor for the creep he is… but the plan backfires. Macdara Vallely crafts a heartfelt drama about the emotional highs and lows in the moment between childhood and adulthood.

Searching the web for any info or media on the film, I found a few audition videos of young actresses of all shades auditioning for the part of Lena – a role that eventually went to newcomer Yainis Ynoa.

Her mother is played by Rosa Arredondo. 

The film was shot on location in and around New York in the fall of 2010 on a reported budget of just under $1 million.

No trailer or much media available on it though.

As you can see from the above photo, the film was once titled Losing it.
