As the title of this post says, it begins tomorrow, Friday, August 12, and runs through the 21st.

Sorry, it’s just here in New York City (at least for now), at the Riverside Theatre at 91 Claremont Ave in Manhattan.

The series begins with an opening night reception at 6:30PM, followed by a screening of the Egyptian film Scheherazade, Tell me a Story at 7:30PM. Directed by Yousry Nasrallah, the film, which was a box office and critical hit in Egypt, is a scathing criticism of male chauvinism in the North African country. The screening will be followed by a talkback with journalists and scholars who will discuss the film, “the current social unrest in Africa and the Middle East and the life of modern women in Islamic oriented societies.”

I have a screener of the movie but I haven’t had an opportunity to watch it yet, otherwise I’d be reviewing it right now. But I plan to finally watch it, if not within the next 12 hours, definitely over the weekend, along with a few others films that will screen in this summer film series, and post write-ups for each – including films we’ve previously profiled on this site like Fire in Babylon, David Is Dying, Bouncing Cats and others.

Tickets are $20 for the opening and closing festivities; but only $10 for general admission on all the other days between; or $8 for students and seniors.
