Remember the black choir that SANG “Stand By Me” at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding? (Of course you do.) The group, properly named the Kingdom Choir, has been signed to Sony and officially set an album release date for November 2 reports the New York Post.
The group’s debut was magical, and viewers were thrilled to see a little soul in the Queen’s domain. Now the choir’s version of “Stand By Me,” along with a myriad of other tunes, will be available for playback.
Nicola Tuer, the chief operating officer of Sony Music U.K., expressed that she, like the rest of us, was enamored by the choir during their royal wedding performance and is excited by the idea of working with them.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have signed Kingdom Choir to Sony,” Tuer told Billboard. “Along with the rest of the world, we were stunned by their incredible performance at the royal wedding, so we jumped at the chance to sign them.”
Sony’s deal secures its part in the Kingdom Choir's new releases, which proves more than promising after the group brought the 1961 classic “Stand By Me” to the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Song chart reports the Telegraph.
The choir, lead by conductor Karen Gibson, celebrated their new deal at Kensington Palace on Tuesday, July 24.
“The Kingdom Choir are absolutely delighted with the journey of the past few months!” Gibson told Billboard. “It’s been a roller coaster, but we wouldn’t have it any other way – first, the honor of being able to sing at the royal wedding, and then the thrill of being signed to Sony! It’s like an un-dreamt dream – one that you wouldn’t even consider because you never thought it could happen to you.”
