The cast of beloved series A Different World reunited to help award thousands of dollars in grants to several HBCUs.
Jasmine Guy, Cree Summer, Kadeem Harrison and Darryl M. Bell were on hand for Home Depot’s announcement of the winners of the “Retool Your School” grant. Nine HBCUS were given a total of $360,000.
The A Different World stars were chosen to participate because of the show’s positive portrayals of HBCU life in the 1980s.
“A Different World has been off the air for a while, but I think that we just kept the legacy alive,” Guy, who played Whitley Gilbert, told 11 Alive.
The recipients were Jackson State University, Southern University and A&M College, Fayetteville State University, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Tuskegee University, Claflin University, Lane College, Livingstone College and Talladega College.
