Marlon Wayans and Priah Ferguson are running from haunted Halloween decorations in the new trailer for Netflix’s The Curse of Bridge Hollow, also starring Kelly Rowland.
The upcoming Netflix family film is coming just in time for the spooky season, with Wayans and Ferguson playing a father and daughter who must stop a spirit from taking over the town before every day becomes Halloween. Rowland also stars as Wayans’ wife and Ferguson’s mother.
The film also stars Rob Riggle, John Michael Higgins, Nia Vardalos, Lauren Lapkus, Holly J. Barrett, Myles Vincent Perez, Abi Monterey and Helen Slayton-Hughes.
The film is directed by Jeff Wadlow with a screenplay by Todd Berger and Roberg Rugan based on a story by Berger and John R. Morey.
Wadlow spoke with Netflix’s editorial arm Tudum about what he hopes viewers take from the film.
“I loved the movies of Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus and Richard Donner growing up, that nostalgic feeling of seeing something special and different and magical. And that’s really what we tried to do with this film,” he said. “We really wanted that ’80s Amblin [Entertainment] tone, but with a modern sensibility, and I hope that that’s what people experience when they watch the movie.”
He also talked about how much loved working with Ferguson and Wayans, praising Ferguson for her emotional depth and Wayans for his ability to connect with the audience.
“I was absolutely over the moon. But there was certainly a moment of, ‘Let’s make sure that this is the right fit,’ because it’s not exactly the same part that she played in Stranger Things,” he said of Ferguson.
Ferguson said with regard to Wayans, “I think he played a father on TV, but this might be his first film where he is playing a father. And I love that he’s just embracing that and that his audience travels with him through each phase of his life.”
