The death of Cheslie Kryst, former Miss USA, is under investigation by the New York Police Department, CNN reports.

The police department confirmed on Monday that officials will be investigating the circumstances of her death, however, it is standard for suicides to be investigated, according to CNN.

Police were called to her apartment building on Sunday morning.

On Sunday morning, Kryst was found deceased after falling from her high-rise Midtown apartment in New York City, the New York Post reports. Her last confirmed sighting was on the terrace on the 29th floor.

Police officials concluded that Kryst, who resided on the ninth floor of the 60-story building, jumped to her death, according to TMZ.

On the day of her passing, Kryst posted a picture of herself on her Instagram page with a caption that read, "May this day bring you rest and peace."

Kryst, a former lawyer who worked as a civil litigation attorney and conducted pro bono work for incarcerated people to lessen their prison sentences, earned her law degree and an MBA from Wake Forest University, USA Today reports.

She went on to win the 2019 Miss USA pageant, where she spoke candidly about controversial issues including the Trump administration's immigration policies, criminal justice reform and Black Lives Matter.

Officials said Kryst left behind a note requesting her possessions be given to her mother.

Her family and "Extra" both issued statements.

Her family issued a statement announcing her death.

"In devastation and great sorrow, we share the passing of our beloved Cheslie," the statement read. "Her great light was one that inspired others around the world with her beauty and strength. She cared, she loved, she laughed and she shined. Cheslie embodied love and served others, whether through her work as an attorney fighting for social justice, as Miss USA and as a host on Extra. But most importantly, as a daughter, sister, friend, mentor and colleague — we know her impact will live on."

Extra also issued a statement, saying she was "a vital part of our show, she was a beloved part of our Extra family and touched the entire staff. Our deepest condolences to all her family and friends."

Kryst's last interview for "Extra" was with actor Denzel Washington.

Her last interview for Extra was with Denzel Washington, during which she asked the Academy-Award winner about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Washington contemplated for a moment, "A superhero power…the power to heal."
