Since it aired on BET last summer – in July – I’ve been asked several times by readers (specifically those without cable TV) whether the cable TV network would make the movie/pilot for Being Mary Jane available via some VOD platform like iTunes, or Amazon Video, etc, so that they could watch it before the series debuted earlier this year.
I did make inquiries to BET a couple of times, but never got a response, so I never had an answer for those of you who asked.
But if you’re still interested in watching the movie/pilot, you should know that it’s now available to stream on Netflix! So if you have a Netflix streaming account, you’re in luck! You’re just a couple of clicks away from what you’ve been asking for since last summer – assuming you haven’t already found a way to watch it via some other method. I believe BET did re-broadcast it right before the project debuted on the network as a TV series in January.
Despite a late 10:30pm start on a Tuesday night when it aired last July, the BET original movie (pilot) Being Mary Jane, starring Gabrielle Union, drew a strong 4 million viewers and a 2.0 rating with adults 18-49, making it that night’s highest rated cable TV program, and the 2nd highest rated show on all of TV, behind NBC’s America’s Got Talent in the same target demographic (adults 18-49).
This news certainly boded well for the eventual TV series that would debut 6 months later, and only just ended its first season with a season finale that drew close to 6 million total viewers.
So head over to Netflix, whether via your computer, or your set-top box connected to your TV, and watch Being Mary Jane, the movie pilot.
