Whoopi Goldberg refused to stay quiet when an audience member blurted out an unwarranted comment during Wednesday’s episode of The View. Goldberg was preparing to start the show when she suddenly heard an unexpected remark coming from the crowd, Variety reports.

“Did you just call me an old broad? Yeah?” Goldberg said when she heard the heckler in the audience.

The camera then cut to the heckler, a woman wearing a large fur hat.

“She said, ‘You old broad,’ and I was like, ‘Hey, it’s Wednesday, and I am an old broad, and happy about it,'” Goldberg added.

Co-host Sunny Hostin then jumped in to defend her colleague. Hostin consoled Goldberg, saying being an “old broad” is better than “the alternative.”

“The alternative is not attractive to any of us. We all want to be old broads and old dudes, you know?” Goldberg said in response.

Goldberg, 67, recently joined surgeon M.E. Hecht to release a book titled Two Old Broads. According to Amazon, the pair engage “in a lively conversation about growing older with no apologies.”

“Dr. Hecht, who passed away a few short months prior to publication, shares her 93 years of wisdom with Whoopi and their fellow ‘broads,’” the book’s summary states.
