On April 22, James Shaw Jr. wrestled a gun away from an active shooter in a Tennessee Waffle House. Though four people were shot and killed before Shaw was able to get the gun away, his heroic efforts potentially prevented further killings of patrons. News of his feat made it to the White House, where Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told press that an aids were working to send an invitation to Shaw.

“My understanding is that there has been an outreach effort to bring him here,” Huckabee Sanders said

However, according to the New York Daily News, Shaw told reporters that he has not received any notice or invitation from the White House Staff.

After news spread of both Shaw’s feat, as well as his efforts that have raised over $216,000 on GoFundMe for the families of those he was not able to save during the shooting, many condemned the President of the United States for not having commented on Shaw’s actions.

Founder and CEO of The Left, Adam Best, tweeted about how, “Donald Trump has now tweeted TWICE about Kanye West. He never tweeted about James Shaw Jr., the hero of the Waffle House shooting. He never tweeted about [the ]racially profiling of innocent black men at Starbucks. Tells you all you need to know about who our President is.”

However, others including Florida, Parkland school shooting survivor Emma Gonzalez, have taken the time to honor Shaw for his bravery and dedication to heartlessness by publicly declaring him “My hero.”
