The 2018 Met Gala may have been several weeks ago, but for some A-list stars, the magic from the year's most illustrious fashion event still lives on.
Actress Mindy Kaling told The Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon on the Wednesday (May 23) telecast that she and Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman had a fake romance brewing at the gala. She tried convincing other attendees they were an item partly because of their similar outfits.
He was dressed in a regal cream-colored Versace suit with gold crosses, and Kaling wore a vanilla Vassilis Zoulias gown with a golden crown with blue accents and gloves.
Chadwick Boseman says people chase him to do the "Wakanda Forever" salute. https://t.co/QVyWapd2hz

"He was sitting next to me, and I felt like I kept kind of trying to make it seem like we were together ‘cause he didn't have a date," she said.
Apparently, she didn't either. The pair sat next to each other during the dinner portion of the May 6 event. She was all into it, but Boseman really wasn't. As the gentleman we have come to love, he played along, told jokes and made her feel comfortable. But he really didn't like it.
"No, no. He hated it," she said. "He thought it was weird. But I was like, whatever, I'm wearing a crown. It's fine."
They could have been the next royal couple to make headlines, but sometimes good things don't happen.
"I felt like someone could look at us and think like ‘OK, he plays a king. She looks like a queen. They're the king and queen of some really b***hing Third World country.'"
