Nigerian actress Sope Aluko, was honored this week by Mayor Carlos A. Giminez, of Miami-Dade County Florida, who proclaimed April 10 as Sope Aluko Day, according to Ripples Nigeria

The proclamation read: "Be it resolved, that I, Carlos A. Giminez, Mayor of Miami-Dade County, Chairman Esteban Bovo, Jr. and the members of the Board of County Commissioners, on behalf of Miami-Dade County and this community, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, April 10, 2018, as ‘Sope Aluko Day.’”

Aluko was honored for her role in the groundbreaking film Black Panther. She played the ‘Shamman’ in scenes along side actor Forrest Whitaker, and was the only Nigerian actress in the movie. 

Her film credits include hits such as Thief, Pitch Perfect 2, 96 Minutes, Grass Stains and The Good Lie. Aluko is also working on a secret Marvel film that is scheduled to be released soon. 

The movie star is also the mother of two teenage sons. Before acting, Aluko earned her degree in engineering and marketing and dominated the corporate world. Deciding to pursue her dreams, she cut her teeth at the historic London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts.
