Seymore Harrison Jr. and his daughter, Charity Joy, took the net by storm with their rendition of Donald Glover/Childish Gambino's "Redbone" from the hit album Awaken, My Love!
The father and daughter duo took the '70s styling of the song and remixed it into a cookie-selling theme that gained Glover's stamp of approval. Charity really wanted to reach the 1,300 goal so she could win a free trip to Disney World. So, they had to get creative to make sure that would happen. With more than 4.5 million views, the bonding moment set the Internet on fire within eight days of its Feb. 18 posting.
“Thin Mints, you wanna order some before it’s too late. We also got Trefoils and they taste great. Tagalongs will make you feel fine,” Charity sings.
“Samoas are coconut cookies with caramel. You wanna get them now because they’re gonna sell. I promise it is worth your time,” the two join in together. “If you want ‘em, you can have ‘em. If you need ‘em, you can buy ‘em, oh! If you want ‘em, you can buy ‘em. Now stay woke, buy these cookies. Girl Scout sellin’ delicious cookies. Now stay woke, buy these cookies. Don’t you wait too late.”
Ultimately, their song helped sell 5000 boxes at $4 to $6 each.
While on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert promoting the upcoming season of Atlanta, Glover talked about how fans sent him the viral video. To Glover's surprise, the girl scout and her dad came out and joined them on-stage.
