Rapper T.I. will be joining a task force composed of 25 persons, including community activists, criminal justice reform volunteers and council members to improve Atlanta's city jail.

The city's mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has said that the main purpose of the task force is to convert the Atlanta city jail into a "multi-faceted use center for wellness and healing, skills-building, economic mobility and crime prevention," as reported by CNN.

The task force is meant to mirror the local leadership already present in the city. Other members of the task force include Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta star and rapper Scrapp Deleon, Atlanta’s Police Chief Erika Shields and Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard.

The jail, located on 254 Peachtree St., has been used to detain and hold people for violating city ordinances and minor traffic violations.

T.I. has done work involving criminal justice efforts in Atlanta in the past. The 38-year-old activist, who was born Clifford Harris, partnered with Ebenezer Baptist Church to organize a Freedom Day Bailout and expungement campaign in June. Earlier this year, he was honored by the Georgia Senate for his work in the community.

The task force will have their first meeting on July 16 in City Hall. The meeting will be open to the public.
