Comedian Tiffany Haddish is now an Eritrean citizen. The Girls Trip star flew to Eritrea's capital city of Asmara last week where she reportedly applied for and was granted citizenship.
Haddish was born in L.A. to an African-American mother, but her late father was Eritrean. Photos of the actress applying for her Eritrean ID card are being widely shared across social media.
"#Asmara: A great moment during our independence week. @TiffanyHaddish applied for an #Eritrean ID card. Congrats! #Eritrea
#ErireaShinesAt28," fellow Eritrean Jonathan Solomon captioned alongside the moment of Haddish ce.

After Haddish was granted citizenship, she participated in events leading up to the northeast African country's 28th Independence carnival, which takes place in Asmara on Friday. At one event, she was reportedly seen in an open-top car waving at Eritreans who had lined up along the streets to celebrate.
Eritreans are celebrating the anniversary of the Eritrean People's Liberation Front, an organization that fought for the independence of Eritrea from Ethiopia.
At the 2018 Oscars, the actress wore a traditional Eritrean outfit to honor her late father, who passed away in 2017.
She told Good Morning America:

“My father is from Eritrea. He passed away last year and he said, one day, I would end up here," Haddish said. "And if I ever ended up at the Oscars to honor my people, so I’m honoring my fellow Eritreans.”
