Sam Woods, the 14-year-old daughter of Tiger Woods, stole the show on Wednesday when she delivered a speech as her father was being inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. While giving her emotional speech at the ceremony in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, Sam recalled the car wreck that left her father seriously injured.
“We didn’t know if you’d come home with two legs or not. Now, not only are you about to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, but you’re standing here on your own two feet,” the teen said, according to Yahoo. “This is why you deserve this, because you’re a fighter.”
Sam also recalled an eventful day in 2007 when her father faced a bitter loss on the golf course and then rushed to see her be born.
“My dad found himself in a position to make an 18-foot putt to force a U.S. Open playoff, which he missed by a foot,” Sam said. “He then had to rush to the airport, fly from Pittsburgh to Orlando, and drive to the Winnie Palmer Hospital. Within five minutes of walking into the hospital room, still wearing his red golf shirt, on June 18, I was born. He may have lost that day, but he won the greatest gift of all.”
Before inviting her father to the stage to accept the honor, Sam said she already inducted the golf legend into “the dad hall of fame” a long time ago.
“But today, I’m so proud to present my dad, Tiger Woods, into the World Golf Hall of Fame,” the teen added.
Tiger then took the stage and kissed his daughter while accepting his award. The emotional father tried to move forward with his speech while fighting through tears.
“Crap,” he said, according to a video on Twitter. “I just lost a bet that I wouldn’t cry.”
