A TikToker has gone viral for alleging that they were asked to dine in an area of a restaurant that appears to only seat Black people, the Daily Dot reports.
The user, whose name appears to be Banksu, noted that they asked to sit in another area but their request was denied.
Banksu told TikTok viewers that the incident went down at The Pub in Pennsauken, New Jersey.
She gave viewers a look inside the restaurant, showing the area she alleges was designated for only Black people. She then showed the area that her and her family wanted to be seated in, which was filled with mostly white people.
“That’s crazy,” Banksu said in the video, which has garnered almost 200,000 views.
Some viewers were confused, while others were left outraged. And some were skeptical that the seating was racially charged.
“Oh yeah no that’s WAY too many people so be a coincidence,” one TikTok user wrote.
“How is this okay? and why isnt this viral yet,” another chimed in.
A few viewers thought that the seating was due to a private party.
“It kinda looks like the party section and a party is happening,” they wrote.
“No disrespect but that clearly is a private party, looks like they have a cake with candles at the back….,” another echoed.
“So, it looks like there’s a large party. Also, there are white people in the ‘Black section,’” noted a another TikToker.
One viewer wondered where mixed-race families would have been seated.
“Where do mixed families go,” they wrote with crying emojis.
Banksu has yet to share a follow up video or comment.
Discrimination in restaurant settings is not uncommon. As Blavity previously reported, an Arizona Cracker Barrel made headlines earlier this year when a former host revealed that the staff referred to Black people with the code word “Canadians.”
