Toni Braxton’s youngest son is headed to Howard University. The singer shared an Instagram post at her son Diezel Braxton-Lewis’ graduation from Fusion Academy, a private school in Los Angeles.
“Congratulations @diezel.braxton! Mom is so proud of you. Howard University here he comes,” she captioned it.
Braxton-Lewis also shared a post on his Instagram last month wearing a Howard University sweatshirt.
After overcoming an early autism diagnosis, the 18-year-old also signed to a modeling agency in 2018 and is now a “social butterfly,” Braxton previously said, according to the Daily Mail.
The singer openly shared her son’s diagnosis of autism at 3 years old.
“I wish I knew what triggered it. Still, often, as a mom, I blame myself,” she said in a 2011 interview with OK Magazine.
Braxton, who has participated in autism awareness and advocacy events, said he no longer shows signs of being on the spectrum.
Braxton-Lewis is one of the latest celebrity children to choose an HBCU for their post high school plans. Earlier this year, Hercy Miller, son of rapper and entrepreneur Master P, committed to playing basketball at Tennessee State University in Nashville, as Blavity previously reported. Shaqir O'Neal, son of former NBA star Shaquille O'Neal, also committed to play basketball at Texas Southern University in Houston.
Diezel is the younger of Braxton's two sons with ex-husband Keri Lewis. Denim, the pair's older son graduated last year amid the height of the pandemic. He is studying sports management at Grand Canyon University and has been taking classes online.
