A Houston student who was selling water to raise money for school clothes was given a shopping spree by Trae The Truth and Megan Thee Stallion, KHOU reports.
Jaydeen Buckley was selling water outside a gas station for several weeks to make enough money to purchase new school clothes, a tablet and to help his family who just relocated from Atlanta.
When Trae heard Jaydeen’s story, he reached out to his family and took the teenager and his family on a shopping spree.
Trae posted about connecting with Jaydeen and his family on his Instagram.
“We Got You Jaydeen,” Trae’s post read. “Welcome To Houston…. Anotha Day Anotha Blessing.”
In an interview with KHOU, Meka Buckley, Jaydeen’s mother, was stunned when she heard the good news.
"I didn't expect it,” Meka said.
As a single mother of four, Meka expressed her gratitude for Trae’s unexpected generosity and how the family’s situation has taken a toll on her.
"I just want happiness and peace," Meka explained. "I'm tired of the struggle. I'm tired of struggling by myself."
Trae’s organization, Relief Gang, also posted on Instagram about Jaydeen’s story.
"This morning @reliefgang and @traeabn were tagged on Instagram about a young man who’s been selling water from 7 am on everyday for the last three weeks,” the post read. "All in an effort to raise money to purchase his school uniforms. We love seeing kids out here making good choices, so we tracked him down to make him right. His family just moved here from Atlanta and doesn’t know anyone. Turns out, his little sister went to school with Lyric – the angel who connected us all. ????"
But the "Here I Go" rapper isn't the only Houston native who offered to help the family. According to Meka, Megan The Stallion also showed her generosity. When she heard about Jaydeen selling water to get school supplies, Meg sent her security to pick up Jaydeen and took him on another shopping spree.
Jaydeen’s ingenuity and hard work paid off and he hopes that his story will inspire others to do the same.
"I hope it encourages other people to stay and work hard," Jaydeen said.
This is just the latest example of Trae's commitment to community. On July 22, he opened Howdy Homemade Ice Cream, an ice cream shop outside of Houston that will employ young adults with special needs.
As Blavity previously reported, Trae also handed out 75 scholarships to local students in Houston at his tenth annual “Trae Day. ”
