Electric Roots: The Detroit Sound Project is a short film series that explores the deep origins of Techno

music from its Detroit birthplace to parts known and unknown all over the world. 

The first episode “South Africa” featuring superstar DJ/producers Black Coffee and Richie Hawtin, made its debut at the Pan African Film & Arts Festival this year, and continues to travel the globe, screening for audiences around the world. It’s currently stomping at the Cannes Short Film Corner. 

Since it was launched two years ago, the Cape Town Electronic Music Festival has been

attracting massive crowds from all over the world, and some of the most influential DJ’s in

the business, who all come for three days of live electronic music performances. Episode 1 in the series gives audiences a particular look into the

world of South Africa’s amazing retelling of Techno music via its Detroit birthplace.

“We take you deep into the House and Techno scene of South Africa, and with the help of some of the biggest in the business, we make connections going all the way back to the music made in my hometown of Detroit in the early 80s,” explains writer/director Kristian R. Hill.
