Here's a trailer for Jessica dela Merced's NYU graduate thesis film Hypebeasts, which she tells us she wrote during an independent study under one professor Spike Lee (you may have heard of him).

The film, which Jessica says "deals with race relations that blow up in an overnight sneaker line," features the acting talents of Grizz Chapman from 30 Rock, Aldon Smith of the San Francisco 49ers, and newcomer, Trevon Davis, among others.

Here's the full description:

The most coveted new sneaker goes on sale at 8am and sneakerheads across the country are camping out overnight to get them. RONNY, a young Filipino-American and die-hard sneakerhead, has been dreaming of these shoes for months, but his quest to get in line is hindered when a fast food cashier's racist joke offends his sister JUSTINE. Ronny's night takes a turn for the worst when he sees the same cashier in the sneaker line. Racial tensions among the sneakerheads intensify and Ronny's fear of not getting his beloved sneakers is quickly replaced with the fear that he and Justine are in serious danger.

I think we've all heard news stories of kids going crazy over some new kicks – crazy enough to hurt others to get them.

Look for the dramedy, produced by Gigi Dement and Marissa Aroy in 2013.
